O.M.T.

Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment

Osteopath at Work

As described on our "What is a D.O.?" page, Osteopathic Physicians bring additional expertise and training to the healthcare table.  OMT, or osteopathic manipulative treatment, is one of those hands-on tools.

OMT is used to diagnose, treat and even prevent illness or injury.  OMT can be used in conjunction with, or even in place of, medication or surgery. One of the ways in which OMT can relieve muscle pain is by promoting increased  blood flow through the tissues. Using a variety of techniques, OMT involves applying gentle manual forces to your body’s affected areas to treat structural and muscular abnormalities. Specific corrective forces are used to relieve joint restrictions and misalignments.

With an emphasis on the musculoskeletal system,  D.O.'s believe that all of the body’s systems, including the musculoskeletal system, work together and that disturbances in one system may impact function elsewhere in the body. This foundational understanding is what sets Focused Pain Relief apart from the standard of care offered by many M.D.'s and Orthopedic specialists.

Dr. Foreit will complete a thorough review of your medical history and current condition, and it may be necessary to have imaging completed to more accurately diagnose the source of your pain.  You may have OMT performed as part of your treatment plan. While the use of OMT its often associated with physical ailments such as low back pain, this modality can also be used to relieve the discomfort or musculoskeletal abnormality associated with a number of disorders.
